Cake Pictures

Mom's 47th birthday cake. 3/17/12
My little sisters turned 21 in September and a topsy turvey cake was requested by my mom. The plastic is around the dress so the shoes don't drip :)

My mother in laws birthday fell on Mother's Day this year so
Mint chocolate cupcakes for my husbands St. Patrick's Day party at work
4th birthday cake for my niece, you guessed it! Ashlyn.
McQueen for Dade's 4th birthday. This isn't the finished product, unfortunately we cut into it before we snapped a finished product.

Cakes, cakes, and more cakes

I'm all caked out. After completing the most elaborate cake to date (even more time consuming than the Alice in wonderland cake for my sisters' birthday last year) I got to bask in my 15 minutes of fame while everyone showered me with yummy noises and compliments. It was great for about 2 minutes then I wanted to be invisible for the rest of the night. The joys of social anxiety! I'm posting from my iPad so I can't upload pictures but I will update the post with the finished product. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

With just a few days rest I started on the "belly and boobs" cake for my super cute friend, and fellow "heart mom", who is expecting twin girls. The cake was cute, although my poor planning led to a very plainly decorated belly. That bummed me out, but it was still cute and so fun to make.

Anniversary

Justin and I met 12 years ago today. He was serving an LDS mission and came with his companion to visit the coolest family in the ward. I opened the door, looked up, and the earth stopped turning. I knew. There is no other way to describe it other than I. Just. Knew.

We began dating August 28th, 2000 about a month after he returned home from his (honorable!!) mission. On May 9th, 2003 we married. Exactly 3 years (almost to the minute) after we met.

It's been a rough 9 years. A lot of bumps and curves along the way. Days when we knew this was forever, and days when we didn't think we'd last. We aren't perfect and certainly don't claim to be. We've both made mistakes that we regret. We've both hurt each other. The difference is that we CHOOSE to fight. We choose to make it work.

We choose US.

Anti-climatic Atlanta

We spent months preparing and anticipating the trip. We had a great flight there, were able to navigate the planet-sized airport with ease, the rental car was painless, and the ride to the hotel was smooth.

We must have built it up in our minds too much because when we got settled in it was like "meh...."

Justin was in meetings a lot and I just kind of hung around. I will say that while Gladys Knights Chicken and Waffles was delicious...it was not by the end of the night. Talk about the worst tummy ache ever!

We had some great food, we got to go to the Coke museum (Cola, not Caine) and we even got some lottery tickets and won $2!

In the airport in ATL we did see Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead and I got a quick snapshot of him. He was really cool and told us they start filming season 3 today. My husband was totally star-struck and it was hilarious.

By Friday we were sick of the traffic and the humidity and were ready to come home. Our flight was really bumpy and scary at times, the plane was gigantic and completely full. We got back to the dry weather and felt much better. We got to snuggle our babies and sleep in our own bed (which left something to be desired because the bed at the hotel was a King, with a feather mattress topper, down pillows and blankets and 600 thread count sheets. Our bed...the EXACT opposite of that.

It was nice to get away but it was almost nicer to be home. Almost.

Funny things kids say

Dade has such a funny sense of humor. He obviously gets this from me. Amirite?! haha

Last night Dade and I were sitting on his bed reading his scriptures, like we do every night, just him and I.

Once we were finished reading we (By "we" I mean ME!) said a prayer and I gave him his vitamin and got up to go turn on his creepy rainforest bird sound machine on. He turned to me and said

"Mom?"
"Yeah buddy?"
"Where is Heavenly Father?"
"He's in Heaven, Dade"
"When I get big I'm going to see him"
"Well yes, Dade. One day when we die, we will get to see him again" (I'd like to mention here that we don't sugarcoat things. We are honest in an age appropriate way. I see no value in telling my impressionable 4 year old that he's never going to die, or that I'm never going to die.)
"Mom?"
"Yes, Dade?"
"When I get big I'm going to turn into a spaceship and go see Heavenly Father..."

"And we'll have a quesadilla."

That, my friends, is what happens when a 4 1/2 year old is up at 6am, doesn't nap, and has a melatonin with dinner.

True Story.
